Saving lives through small design details

I ran a large-sample usability test to evaluate the design affordances provided by different motorcycle chinstrap end fasteners that keep the end of the chinstrap from flapping while riding.

The research question was whether the type of end fastener caused users to fasten the chinstraps inappropriately, thus causing safety risks.

This study found that the velcro fasteners more reliably prompted improper fastening than either the snap or clip  end fastener styles.
